Evangelia Kussiora

Evangelia Kussiora - Osteopath (D.O., GOsC)

Eva is a UK qualified Osteopath and, as required by law, is registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) and a member of the Institute of Osteopathy. Eva has been working as an osteopath for over 20 years and is a principal of the Forest Complementary Clinic in Walthamstow.

She maintains an ongoing commitment to continuous professional development (minimum of 30 hours annually) by attending courses and seminars to improve her existing skills and techniques to keep up to date in her approach to clinical treatment (of musculoskeletal conditions).

Eva has successfully treated many painful conditions including:

Acute and chronic back pain
Stress related conditions, headaches
Work related injuries
Minor sports injuries
Neck, shoulder and mid back pain
Low back, hip and knee pain
Low back pain in pregnancy
Posture related problems in children and teenagers
Osteo-arthritic joint pain in the older generation
Each treatment is based on the individual needs of each patient and will be aimed at helping to restore or improve patients’ health, relieve pain, improve posture and minimise dependency on drugs and of course prevent reoccurrence.

Early treatment may often prevent the development of more serious problems and of long term, chronic pain which can be debilitating.

There can be some discomfort for a short while after treatment as muscles or joints start to work properly again, but for most people treatment is pleasant and relaxing.

Many patients enjoy the benefits of maintenance every 3-6 months to avoid symptoms recurring. Too many people suffer pain which, with appropriate treatment and management, may be alleviated or controlled.

Pain is normally a warning signal that something is wrong; more often than not pain is the result of localised swelling of tissue which creates pressure on nerves. It normally disappears when healing takes place. Healing may occur spontaneously but normally it needs a helping hand.
Eva uses a wide variety of Techniques, depending on the age and the condition. Gentle techniques are generally adopted for elderly patients and children. Go to here for more details

There is nothing more rewarding than having my patients say that since having treatment, they feel better than ever before !!!

Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing developed over thousands of years as part of the Traditional medicine of China, Japan and other Eastern countries.

It has evolved into a system of medicine that restores and maintains health by the use of thin needles which are inserted just beneath the body’s surface at various points along energy channels.

These energy channels circulate the body and connect to the organs. For each person, specific points along energy channels are chosen in regard to symptoms and diagnosis. When a needle is inserted, it stimulates the body’s own healing response to help restore its natural energy balance.

What is Acupuncture used for?
Pain – headache, backache, arthritis and sport injuries.
Digestive ailments – constipation, ulcers, indigestion, bloatedness and irritable bowel syndrome.
Gynaecological disorders – premenstrual tension, irregular or painful periods, infertility.
Respiratory ailments – flu, cold, cough, asthma and a lowered immunity.
Lack of energy – insomnia, tiredness, lack of motivation and concentration.
Emotions – stress and anxiety.
Acupuncture does more than simply relieve symptoms. Its aim is to treat the whole person and restore the balance between the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of the individual.

It can be used as a preventative form of healthcare, to strengthen the constitution or to control symptoms that, if left unchecked, could develop into an ailment. Acupuncture can be used even when a person may not have a specific illness but feel unwell in themselves.
The aim of the treatment is to bring about a relief of the symptoms as quickly as possible, by addressing the underlying causes of the complaint as well as the symptoms.

Aromatherapy

What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the systematic use of essential oils in holistic treatments to improve physical and emotional well-being. Essential oils, extracted from plants, trees, flowers and fruits possess distinctive therapeutic properties, which can be utilised to improve health and prevent disease. An essential oil is an aromatic, volatile substance extracted from a single botanical source by distillation or expression. Essential oils have been utilised in fragrances, flavours and medicines for thousands of years. There are some 400 essential oils extracted from plants all over the world.

Aromatherapy is an especially effective treatment for many common ailments including stress-related problems and a variety of chronic conditions. The role of the aromatherapist is to blend the oils that are most beneficial to you and to give advice that will assist you in balancing and improving your whole life. A series of regular treatments will increase relaxation and improve well being.

What happens in a typical aromatherapy session?

The aromatherapist will ask questions about your medical history, general health and lifestyle. This will help her or him decide which essential oils are most appropriate for you as an individual. The aromatherapist may wish to contact your GP, with your permission, to inform her or him that you are receiving aromatherapy treatments. After selecting and blending appropriate essential oils, the aromatherapist will usually apply the oils in combination using a relaxing therapeutic massage.

Homeopathy

Homeopaths take a holistic view of illness, looking at the whole person, rather than just the physical, mental or emotional state in isolation. Symptoms of illness are regarded as evidence of the body’s natural efforts to heal it, and these clues are used to guide the homeopath in prescribing a remedy that will counter-act the illness and stimulate the body’s self healing abilities.

Homeopathy is safe, non-toxic and non-addictive. It can be used by anyone of any age, including pregnant women and babies.

The remedies are made from natural substances which are diluted many times over, making them entirely safe and non-invasive. Most of the remedies will be small pills that dissolve under your tongue and taste nice. Soft tablets are used for babies and young children, as these dissolve as soon as they are put in the mouth.

Homeopathy can help with most complaints whether they are mental, physical or emotional. It can also help if there is no clear diagnosis, but you just don’t feel well. People often try homeopathy when they have tried other forms of treatment and have not resolved their health problems.

As homeopathy is a holistic medicine, it will not interfere with any medicines your doctor may be giving you, or other complementary treatments.

Homeopathy can help you to reduce the prescribed medicines you may be taking but only with the supervision of the homeopathic practitioner and your general practitioner.

If you want to find out more about scientific evidence for homeopathy please look up the Society of Homeopaths website on Society of Homeopaths.

Homeopathic clinic appointments last for 1 hour.

Acute Drop-In clinic appointments are also offered and they last for approximately 15 minutes.

Our Homeopaths
Lesley graduated from the college of Homeopathy in 1988. She has been in full practice since 1992.

In her homeopathic practice, she sees people of all ages and treats many common health conditions. People come with hormonal problems, including Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, allergy conditions, enlarged tonsils, migraines, sleep disorders, skin conditions and recurrent winter illness.

She works one day a week for MIND in Tower Hamlets, where she sees patients who are living with mental illness and stress problems. She does a Mother and Baby clinic with the Health Visitors at the Bromley by Bow surgery, and has a lot of experience treating pregnant women and small babies, helped by her training as a breast feeding counsellor.

Another interest is the treatment of people with HIV and A.I.D.S. Lesley regularly volunteers for the Maun Homeopathy Project, in Botswana, working in clinics and teaching students about homeopathy.

Before training as a homeopath, she taught children and young adults with special educated needs and severe learning difficulties.

Reflexology

What does treatment involve?
Each organ, structure and system of the body corresponds to specific areas in the feet and is connected by a system of energy which can become congested or blocked.

The Reflexologist uses an acupressure technique to work over these areas and seeks to detect and relax tension and encourage the free flow of energy to help normalize bodily functions and self-healing. Although not a 'cure-all', most conditions respond to treatment.

These include:
  • Muscular tension
  • Back problems
  • Migraine
  • Insomnia
  • Arthritis
  • Asthma
  • Hiatus hernia
  • Emotional problems
  • Bowel problems
  • Stress
  • Tension
  • Menstrual/menopausal problems
People with progressive disorders such as MS (multiple sclerosis) and ME (post viral fatique syndrome) can also derive benefit
Also of therapeutic value for women in pregnancy and the post natal period

Who can benefit?
The therapy is suitable for most people of all age groups, from babies to the elderly. Reflexology treatment has preventative value because it can detect imbalances at an early stage.

It is not just for those with obvious health problems since an occasional course of treatment is a pleasant way of maintaining health and wellbeing. The treatment usually induces a deep state of reflexology helping to alleviate physical and mental stress considered to be the cause of so much ill health.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. This treatment is for injury or problems areas and it is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders.

The types of techniques used will be tailored to the individuals needs uncovered in the pre-treatment consultation. Ideal for pre, during or post exercise, this massage can help facilitate greater flexibility, fatigued or tightened muscles, cramp, frozen shoulder, whiplash injury and help improve recovery time after injury.

Some of the same strokes are used as classic massage therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain.

This treatment is a specific type of massage which aids in relaxing muscles, increases blood circulation and lymph flow, improves the healing time of strained ligaments and muscular tissue, reduces the inflammation of joints and heart rate, improves range of motion and joint flexibility, increases endorphins, strengthens the immune system, decreases spasms, improves oxygen flow and helps to relieve muscle tension.

Aroma Facial Massage

This treatment combines a luxurious facial mask with a face, scalp and neck massage.

Your facial mask will be blended during your treatment. The mask is made from natural Calamine powder. Essential oils selected right for your skin type will be blended into the mask before application.

The mask is applied using a soft facial brush to the entire face. Kay will perform scalp massage to give you the sense of complete relaxation whilst the mask develops. After 5-10 minutes your Kay will remove the mask using a cotton wool compress with warm water.

Blends of essential oils are selected between yourself and Kay depending on your skin type and preferences. These are then blended in carrier oil most suited for your skin type (e.g sweet almond oil, jojoba oil). This oil blend is applied to your face using small gentle effleurage strokes and other face massage techniques.

Potential Benefits of Treatment:
Stimulates blood supply to the facial tissues.
Relaxes facial muscles.
Relaxes the mind.
A regular facial massage routine may create a smoother and more radiant complexion.
